James Orban, Former Publisher, The Ottawa Citizen for his outstanding contribution to community development, his efforts in aiding science education, and community leadership in support of charitable causes.
Jim began his newspaper career with the Ottawa Journal (1972) the Ottawa Citizen (1975) the Edmonton Journal (1991) before returning to the Citizen in 1994. He was appointed publisher of the Ottawa Citizen in 2003 and retired in August 2010. In October, he joined Algonquin College as Director of International and Corporate Business Development.
Jim earned an MBA from the University of Ottawa and over the last 35 years volunteered his time to over 25 different community and business organizations and is currently active with several community advisory/foundation boards in the National Capital Region.
Jim’s community building has been recognized by the following organizations: OCRI Civic Entrepreneur of the Year (2002), University of Ottawa’s Telfer School of Management Trudeau Medal (2004) and Dean’s Philos award (2007), first recipient of the “Just One Person” award (2006) honouree for the Jewish National Fund of Canada’s Negev dinner (2007) and United Way Community Builder award (2010).
Jim is known as collaborative and high performance business leader with a track record for delivering results in the corporate and community volunteer sectors with a strong focus on building mutually-beneficial business/community partnerships.

Aujourd’hui il participe activement à divers comités consultatifs et conseils d'administration dans la région de la Capitale nationale.
Au cours des années il a été reconnu pour sa vaste contribution à la communauté par les organisations suivantes : l’OCRI - l'entrepreneur civique de l'année (2002), l’Université d’Ottawa - le Médaille Trudeau de l'École de gestion Telfer (2004) etle prix Philos du doyen (2007), il a été le premier récipiendaire du prix « Un être unique » (2006), Fonds national juif - il a été honoré au dîner Negev (2007), Centraide/United Way Ottawa - le Prix de bâtisseur communautaire (2010).
